A woman's body was discovered in a car on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick on Sunday.

The body was discovered in a car in a parking area near the entrance to the hospital’s emergency department, at around 11am on Sunday.

Gardaí are awaiting the results of an autopsy report.

A Garda source said that investigating gardaí were presently not suspecting foul play, and were working on a theory that the woman may have died having suffered a medical emergency.

A post-mortem examination on the body will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

It’s not known how long the body was in the car before the emergency services were notified.

A Garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí responded to a report of the discovery of a woman unresponsive in a car at a premises in Dooradoyle, Limerick, on the morning of Sunday 15th March 2026.”

“The woman (aged in her 50’s) was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

“The coroner has been notified. A post-mortem examination will be arranged, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.”

A spokesman for HSE Mid West said it was a matter for Gardaí and that University Hospital Limerick was not making any comment.
