LOURDES RELICS

In September and October, the relics of St Bernadette of Lourdes will journey on pilgrimage to Ireland for the first time, visiting every diocese in the country.

The diocese of Ossory will host a visit of the relics on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, 21-22 September, in St. Mary’s cathedral, Kilkenny.

THE LATE FR PETER PAUL DALY

The death took place on Tuesday 20 August of Fr Peter Paul Daly, OMI, Oblate Community, House of Retreat, Inchicore, Dublin 8 and formerly Castlequarter, Ballybrophy. The Rev Fr Daly, who was in his 93rd year, passed away in the care of the palliative care staff at St James’s Hospital, Dublin.

Son of the late Martin and Sarah Daly, he was predeceased by his sisters Kay (Dennehy), Cork and Peg (Coogan), Castlecomer, brothers Martin (Castlequarter) and Pat (Wexford). He is mourned by his brothers Sean (Cork), Michael (Clare) and Fr Joe, OMI, Inchicore, close family, his Oblate community, staff of the House of Retreat and friends.

His remains reposed at the community chapel, House of Retreat, Inchicore on Thursday 22 August. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday 23 August in the Church of Mary Immaculate (Oblates), Inchicore, followed by burial in the community cemetery.

‘FIND THE JOKER’

The fundraiser in aid of Borris-in-Ossory Community Development Association/tidy towns and Borris-in-Ossory Santa Claus club took place in Kelly’s on Wednesday 28 August. The envelope drawn was #13 – ‘seven of clubs’ ? and belonged to Peggie Walsh, c/o Rose Ryan. The ‘joker’ was not found. The jackpot is now €1,080 and the next draw will take place in Kelly’s on Wednesday 11 September at 9pm. Envelopes to participate cost €2 or three for €5 and are available fromt Kelly’s, Daybreak/post office, Drennan’s Butchers and from committee members and supporters of both organisations. Completed envelopes can be deposited in any of the boxes installed in the three business premises on Main Street. Envelopes can also be filled via Revolut on 087 2071267.

Numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 19, 21, 23, 24, 26, 33, 35, 36, 37, 39, 42, 44 and 53 are unavailable.

GORTNALEE OPEN GARDEN

On Sunday 21 July, a successful open day was held at Gortnalee gardens, Donaghmore in aid of Laois Hospice Foundation. Garden owner Hazel Luskin would like to thank all who came to visit the garden and support this worthy cause. Thanks to all who helped out, all who baked or brought goodies for the afternoon tea and those who gave donations and bought raffle tickets. A special word of thanks to all the local businesses and individuals who donated prizes for the raffle. As a result of the successful event, Hazel presented a cheque for €2632.55 to Mary Delaney, chairperson, Laois Hospice Foundation.

ART EXHIBITION

Moments In Time is an exhibition of paintings by Billy Dollard, taking place in Bloom HQ Mountrath (old convent) for the month of September. Some 25 paintings include oil and watercolours. All are welcome.

BORRIS-IN-OSSORY GAA LOTTO

Numbers drawn on 27 August were 3, 16, 20 and 25 and there was no winner of the €11,000 jackpot. MASS TIME CHANGE

There has been a change in the time of Sunday Mass in Ballaghmore and Knock. Mass in Knock will be on Sunday 8 September at 9.15am and Mass in Ballaghmore will be on Sunday 15 September at 9.15am.

FIRST FRIDAY

Friday is the first Friday of the month. Evening Mass in Borris-in-Ossory is at 7.30pm.

WHIST

In Aghancon hall on Thursday at 8pm. All are welcome.
