Main Street Abbeyleix came to a standstill earlier today after a lorry load of timber shed its load in the middle of the busy thoroughfare.

John P Halloran, Carlow Road, Abbeyleix and formerly of Moyglass, Co. Galway died unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on Thursday 9 January. John P was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia and his brother Dermot.

Nora Delaney (née Maher), Cullenagh, Portlaoise died peacefully on Sunday 5 January at her home surrounded by her loving family. Nora was predeceased by her husband, Denis (Din), her daughter Louise, her infant son and her son-in-law Don Browne.

Marian Bonham (née Monaghan), Balladine, Abbeyleix passed asway peacefully in the care of Ballard Lodge Nursing Home on Tuesday 24 December. Marian was predeceased by her husband Sean.

Zita Hayes (née White), The Grove, Abbeyleix passed away peacefully in the care of Marymount Care Centre Lucan. Zita was predeceased by her husband Eddie, brothers Reggie and Pat, brothers-in-law Gerry and Padraig and sister-in-law Angela.

A 48-YEAR-OLD Abbeyleix woman who grabbed the lapel of a uniform and pulled the hair of a receptionist at the Maldron Hotel in Portlaoise appeared before the local district court last week on an assault summons.

Mary Carroll (née Parkinson), Killamuck, Abbeyleix passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Friday 13 December.

Eileen McCarthy, (née Doyle) 19 High Street, Birr, Co. Offaly and formerly of Abbeyleix passed away peacefully on Tuesday 10 December aged 79, in the care of The Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore surrounded by her loving family.
