Abbey Street in Dublin city centre has been closed following a collision on Wednesday.

The road traffic collision, which gardaí described as serious, occurred on the junction of Abbey Street and O'Connell Street in Dublin 1.

Road users have been asked to avoid the area due to delays, and Luas Red Line services have been suspended between Smithfield and The Point.

The incident was attended by ambulances, the fire brigade and An Garda Síochána, and happened just off O'Connell Street on the corner of Middle Abbey Street, outside Supermacs.

The area has been cordoned off, and according to The Irish Times, the ambulances and fire engines have since left the scene.

Transport for Ireland said on X that Luas services are operating between Tallaght/Saggart and Smithfield only.

Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of the disruption, the post added.
