Accomplished Tipperary camoige player (20) named locally as crash victim

A young woman who died in a two-car collision in Co Tipperary on Tuesday has been named locally.

Laura Kennedy from Burgess died in the two-car collision on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495 at approximately 9pm.

She was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was later taken to University Hospital Limerick (UHL), where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The coroner has been notified. The road is currently closed to allow for a technical examination to take place.

Ms Kennedy was well known in GAA circles in the area and was due to celebrate her 21st birthday in a couple of weeks.

Locals said that Laura and her twin Aishling were very accomplished at sport, particularly cross country and camoige with her club, Burgess Duharra Camoige Club, and Tipperary Development Camoige squads.

Her family are also cousins of Tipperary hurler Willie Connors from nearby Killadangan, who won an All-Ireland Senior Hurling medal last year when Tipperary had an emphatic victory over Cork.

In a statement, gardaí said any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495, Co Tipperary, between 8:15pm and 9:15pm on Tuesday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
