A service station in Co Carlow has run out of fuel due to the ‘unprecedented’ levels of sales, due to the low prices it has had on offer to motorists.

The Spar Ballon N80 service station kept its prices below the €2 mark for as long as possible and, as a result, had no diesel left. Three days of fuel supplies were sold in a single day on Saturday.

In a social media post, service station management explained: ‘The level of sales over the last two days was unprecedented. And as a result we have run out of diesel.”

The management went on to apologise to their loyal customers for any inconvenience.

“We will be restocked, as soon as delivery can be arranged. Thanks everybody as always for the huge support. And have no worries, our fuel prices will continue to be as low as we possibly can keep them going forward”.

Fuel prices on forecourts had reached up to €2.30 per litre for diesel while petrol hit €2 due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Last week, the government cut taxes on petrol and diesel as part of a package aimed at helping people with escalating prices.

Excise duty was cut by 20 cent on a litre of diesel and by 15 cent for petrol until the end of May.
