Couple who got engaged on stage return with early introduction of baby to the panto world

It may well be the first time 'Little John' has been pregnant, but for a couple who got engaged on stage last year, they are introducing their baby early to the pantomime.
Last year, the Fairy Godmother said yes after her fellow character Gaston proposed to her on the stage at the Beauty and the Beast pantomime at the TLT venue in Drogheda, Co. Louth.
It was one year since actors Shay Carry and Vicky Kenny met while rehearsing for a panto, and another year on from their engagement, they had more news to share as they took to the stage for Robin Hood at the same theatre.
This time, Vicky and her rounded belly was well-placed to play Little June in the show while Shay remained in his role as the Dame.
"We are having a baby, but not on this stage, I hope," laughed the couple.

"It's been a whirlwind of a year. Last year we got engaged, and now this year we are back on stage with a baby on board.
"Vicky is six months pregnant, and the baby is due in March, so we are super excited. We are planning to get married in October as well.
"We love the pantomime, so why not continue and introduce the baby to the world of pantomime bliss. We decided to turn Little John into Little June for the event, and it is a super show which is running until January 4th.
"At the last show in 2024, Shay took Vicky and the audience by surprise when he asked her to read a message which said: "
"Today at this theatre, we have two extraordinary people who are at the heart of the TLT production.
"In the world of live theatre, some moments unfold by chance, while others are destined to be. She began with an evil streak, and soon her magic shone through. I will always love you now and forever from this moment."
The back curtains opened, and under a backdrop of 'Will you marry me Vicky?" was Shay down on one knee with a ring in front of an audience of 715 people.
Cue the panto cast onstage to cheer the embracing couple ahead of a wrap-up party that turned out to be an engagement celebration.
