Gardaí investigating after body of woman (70s) pulled from water in Mayo

Gardaí are investigating following the discovery of a woman’s body in Castlebar, Co Mayo, on Tuesday morning.
The body was removed from the water at Lough Lannagh just outside the town shortly after 6:30am, and both gardaí and emergency services remain at the scene.
The woman, who was aged in her 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
A section of the popular walkway and amenity area at Lough Lannagh is currently closed to the public. The lake is located close to the town and is adjacent to holiday accommodation and tourism facilities.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that an investigation was underway.
“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar.
“Shortly after 6:30am, gardaí attended the scene and the body of a woman, aged in her 70s, was removed from the water,” they added.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene. A spot mortem will take place in due course.”
