Camogie Junior Championship Final

O’Moores 5-8

Camross 1-5

The scoreline tells its own story, O’Moores were by far the superior outfit right from the throw in in this years Camogie Junior Championship final. They had been the form team all year and once the ball was thrown in they wasted no time in setting out their stall.

Camross fielded a very young team while on the other hand O’Moores had a team of more experienced players and from the throw in they showed their qualities and picked off some good points.

Camross were slow to settle and once O’Moores struck for two well taken goals the writing was on the wall. A good move from midfield by Sarah Hibbits led to an early goal from Colette Duff. Five minutes later O’Moores rose a second green flag when another long ball from midfield was finished to the net by full forward Collette Duff again.

Camross struggled to break down the O’Moores defence but midway through the half they sent over points by Annabelle Ryan, from a free, and another long range effort by the same player.

Just as Camross were beginning to find their feet O’Moores struck for a third goal. This time Colette Duff turned provider, laying on a perfect ball for the well placed Orla Whelan who rattled the Camross net, who at the interval trailed 0-3 to 3-2.

O’Moores, playing into the Town goal on the changeover, returned even more determined than before the break. They got a perfect start when Aoibhe Foyle converted a free inside four minutes and the same player added two more from placed balls.

Camross were thrown a lifeline when Amy Dowling struck for a goal and points followed from Annabelle Ryan frees.

However, O’Moores wrapped up the scoring with a pair of goals by Sarah Hibbits and a great finish by Lucy Kirwan.

The joint captains Elaine and Caitriona Downey accepted the trophy on behalf of the joyous winners O’Moores.
