Leinster and Ireland full-back Hugo Keenan could be in contention for the opening of the Six Nations.

Keenan has not played yet this season, following hip surgery after the British and Irish Lions tour.

The Ireland full-back scored the winning try as Andy Farrell's side won the series 2-1.

While he had hoped to be back playing at this stage of the season, Keenan is hoping to be back sooner rather than later and has been included in the Ireland squad for the Six Nations.

The clash against Connacht comes too soon, but a return before the end of the month has not been ruled out.

Hugo Keenan is an ambassador for Inishella, BWG Foods’ quality Bord Bia approved range of fresh, high-protein, low fat Irish meats. Inishella products are available in BWG’s nationwide network of SPAR, EUROSPAR, MACE, LONDIS and XL stores. For more information on the Inishella range please visit your local participating store.

Leinster face Edinburgh on January 31st, with the opening game of the Six Nations away to France on February 5th.

“I'm doing well. I obviously haven't played yet, but I'm getting there", said Keenan.

"I feel I've turned the corner in the last couple of weeks. I've been back out training fully with Leinster the last week or two, so starting to come good.

“When exactly I'll be out there is not 100% certain, but it's in the short term anyway. In the next couple of weeks, I'm hoping to be there. So yeah, it's been a long old process, a little bit slower than I'd hoped.

“I was always aiming for sort of January, and I hopefully won't miss that target, but always wanted to get back for the big interpros, the Champions Cup games. So that's been a little bit frustrating.

“But it's important that you don't rush these things, that you've spent four or five months out and you don't ruin the good work that you've been putting in and the good base that you've gotten. So it’s the last hurdle to get over really now."
