Independent Republicans in Laois will gather for a 1916 Easter Rising Commemoration on Easter Sunday 20 April. Those attending are asked to assemble at The Heath National School at 11. 30am and parade to the nearby Republican Monument.

Thomas Dempsey, Portlaoise and formerly of Dublin passed away in his 82nd year on Saturday 11 January. Thomas will be sorely missed by his loving family, daughter Fiona and son, Mark and his wife, Katherine and relatives.

Jim Lalor, The Heath, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday 19 November. Jim was the dearly loved husband to Mary. Loving father to Pat, Jimmy, Denis, Louise and Mark.

FUNDING to the tune of €271,296 from the Government’s latest multi-annual Rural Water Programme was allocated to three group water schemes in Laois. The Heath Group Water Scheme is to receive €97,527.

The work involve the conversion of over 230km of the overhead network, in addition to timber cutting and the replacement of poles and transformers.
