A man and a woman, both in their 40s, have died following a crash involving a van and a car in Tramore, Co Waterford, gardaí said.

Emergency services were called to the Tramore Road at Robin Hill in the Pickardstown area at around 12pm on Saturday.

In a statement An Garda Síochána said the man and woman, who were travelling in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 50s and a “juvenile male” who were in the van were taken to University Hospital Waterford where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The bodies of the man and the woman were taken to the same hospital for postmortem examinations and gardaí said the coroner has been notified.

Forensic investigators carried out a technical examination of the scene and the road has now been reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them and say investigations are ongoing.

In particular, they want to hear from drivers who may have dashcam footage and were travelling in the area between 11.45am and 12.15pm
