A man has died after crash involving his car and a truck in Co Kildare.

Gardaí were called to the scene of the fatal two-vehicle collision at Barnhill East in Castledermot shortly after 9.20am on Monday.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, was fatally injured in the crash.

His body was removed to the mortuary in Naas General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the truck was taken to St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny for treatment to injuries which are believed to be non-life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

The R448 remained closed on Monday evening from junction 4 of the M9 to Castledermot, with local traffic diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
