Motorcyclist who died in Cork was visiting Ireland from Scotland

A motorcyclist in his early 30s who died in an accident on the N71 in the Caha Pass in Co Cork on Thursday afternoon was visiting Ireland from his native Scotland.

The collision occurred between the motorcyclist and a car at 2.55pm on Thursday.

Emergency services rushed to the area. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was transferred to the morgue at Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the car escaped serious injury in the incident.

It is understood the deceased man was from Aberdeen.

The area where the crash occurred was closed to allow Gardai to carry out a technical examination of the scene. The road has since reopened.

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who were travelling on the N71 between Glengarriff and Kenmare at Caha Pass, on Thursday between 2.15pm and 2.45pm, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to gardaí.
