Amazon opens dedicated Irish online shopping portal

The company said that Irish small and medium-sized businesses recorded €170m in export sales on the platform in 2023.

ONLINE global retailer Amazon has just launched a dedicated site for Irish shoppers - Amazon.ie It’s three years on since the world's largest online retailer and marketplace opened its first fulfilment centre in Dublin.

Amazon employs over 6,500 people in six sites across Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda in areas such as data engineers, operations management, and finance. 

The fulfilment centre in located in Baldonnell Business Park and a delivery station in Ballycoolin, Dublin.

Now with its Irish online presence the company said Irish customers will get one day delivery on millions of products with a page on its site dedicated to ‘Brands of Ireland’ which is part of a collaboration with Enterprise Ireland.

With the launch of its Irish site the company said that customers in Ireland can shop a wide selection of over 200 million products with prices in Euro, fast deliveries and easier returns.

As part of the launch, the company is offering its Prime membership for €6.99 a month which includes delivery on purchases as well as access to its streaming service Prime Video. Existing Amazon customers in Ireland who already have UK Prime memberships can switch and will automatically have their UK Prime membership cancelled and refunded when they do so.

Ireland country manager at Amazon Alison Dunn said: “We can’t wait to write the next chapter of our story in Ireland.”

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the company’s expansion will “give consumers more choice and better value, as well as help small, medium and large businesses across the country promote their own Irish and international products”.
