Ballyfin Demesne announces Artist in Residence programme
Amelia Stein will be Artist in Residence at Ballyfin Demesne from 26-29 March
THE artist in residence programme at Ballyfin Demesne is set to continue this summer with its spring and summer schedule, which will showcase the talents and works of six distinguished Irish artists.
The five-star luxury hotel and manor estate at Ballyfin will continue its collaboration with the Oliver Sears Gallery, Dublin and the John Martin Gallery in London, with this year’s residency set to welcome another diverse group of artists, offering them the opportunity to stay and create work on the estate for the duration of their programme.
The spring-summer residencies will feature the following artists:
Amelia Stein, 26-29 March: Born in Dublin in 1958, Amelia, RHA, is a renowned photographer, whose work through the black and white medium has captured actors, performers, writers and musicians. Her most recent endeavours explore the Zen dry gardens and temple gardens of Kyoto.
Michael Canning, 2-5 April: Born in Limerick in 1971, Michael’s paintings of hedgerow plants blends landscape and still-life traditions. He also lectures in sculpture, combined media and painting at the Limerick School of Art & Design.
Sasha Sykes, 1-5 June: Working between Dublin and Carlow, Sasha has a background in architecture and is renowned for her distinctive artworks and furniture pieces in Ireland and abroad. Her practice explores the cycle of life, decay and preservation, with her current exhibition Belonging currently on display at Lismore castle.
Martin Finnin, 9-12 July: Martin studied at Limerick School of Art and briefly at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin before spending time in London and travelling extensively across Europe. His work is purely abstract and will be on exhibition at Ballyfin Demesne for the month of July.
Nigel O’Reilly, 10-13 August: Based in rural Mayo, Nigel is a master goldsmith and high-jewellery designer. His work blends ancient and modern techniques, featuring vibrant gemstones, signature gold latticework and flowing sculptural forms.
