Two brothers who are accused of multiple rapes against a pre-teen female relative will have to return to court in March to learn their trial date.

Aged in their 20s, both with the same address, the men are accused of a total of 19 sample counts of rape on the child at an address in Kildare, on dates unknown between 1 January 2015 and 30 April 2016.

The allegations began to surface back in 2022, the court learned, before Sergeant Dave Hanrahan admitted the books of evidence were not yet completed in this case.

“This will most likely go to the Central Criminal Court,” predicted the sergeant.

Solicitor Cairbre Finan, who was representing the younger of the two brothers, told the court his client was currently an inpatient at a medical facility.

Judge Desmond Zaidan accepted the facts as before him and remanded the pair on continuing conditional bail until 6 March for their books of evidence.

The conditions include no contact with the injured party, staying at their given address, signing on three times a week at their local garda station and staying out of Co Kildare, save for court appearances.
