Car drove towards Portlaoise gardaí on wrong side of the road

GARDAÍ patrolling the Portlaoise Plaza area last night met a car coming against them on the wrong side of the road.
The Volkswagen saloon, which had illegally tinted number plates, was quickly pulled in by the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU).
In a separate incident, a car was seized from an unaccompanied learner driver with no insurance, who turned away from a checkpoint.
The Audi saloon was towed away from the scene and the driver is facing a court appearance for a series of traffic offences.
Posting pictures this evening on the An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly Facebook page, gardaí said: ‘Laois RPU patrolling the Portlaoise Plaza last night met this vehicle with illegally tinted number plates coming against them on the wrong side of the road. The driver was stopped and issued a fine and penalty points.
‘Separately, a vehicle was seized after the driver was observed turning away from a checkpoint. The driver was found to be an unaccompanied learner permit holder with no insurance or tax.’
Gardaí confirmed that the learner’s vehicle was seized and that court proceedings have commenced.
