THE Clonaslee St Stephen's Day Walk group had cause for celebration on 17 April, when they handed over a cheque for €37,600 to the Laois Hospice Foundation committee in the Heritage Centre, Clonaslee.
The cheque was presented to Mary Delaney, chairperson of the Laois Hospice Foundation, by Lucy Feighery and Edel Bourke, two of the Clonaslee St Stephen’s Day Walk committee members.
It represented the proceeds of a very successful walk which took place on St Stephen’s Day 2025, the 33rd iteration of what is now a Clonaslee Christmas tradition.
Sheila Bourke, co-ordinator of the walk, thanked all involved for their hard work in making the day such a success. She also thanked sponsors of the walk for their continued support.
The 2025 walk saw huge crowds take part, with some walkers coming from Mayo, Wicklow and Clare, creating a memorable atmosphere. They all later met at the community centre to chat and enjoy refreshments. The committee says its Facebook page plays a massive part in getting the word out across the country.
Mary Delaney was delighted to accept the funds and thanked the people of Clonaslee for organising the annual fundraiser for Laois Hospice. She provided detailed information about how the funds will be distributed and expressed gratitude to photographer Michael Scully for his kindness and support of Laois Hospice.
