A MAN who reversed his car into a petrol pump failed to appear when his case was called at Portlaoise District Court.

Defendant Bruno Souza (34) from Thomand Court, Thomand Hill, Ballymahon, Longford was due before the court, summoned with driving without insurance and without a licence on 15 January last year, at the Texaco Spar Service Station, Tullamore Road, Mountmellick.

Giving evidence in the defendant’s absence, Garda Tracey Keoghan said she attended the scene, after a report of a man reversing his car into a petrol pump. Following investigations, she contacted the defendant on 17 February and he admitted driving without insurance at the time.

He told Garda Keoghan that he would produce his insurance and driving licence at Longford Garda Station but failed to do so.

She said that Mr Souza had seven previous convictions for road traffic offences.

Judge Susan Fay issued a bench warrant for the defendant’s arrest and said he would be sentenced when he was brought before the court.
