Laois businessman charged with burgling former employees apartment

Portlaoise District Court

A BUSINESS owner who burgled a former employee’s apartment had his case adjourned when he appeared at Portlaoise District Court last week.

Before the court was 49-year-old Alex Andru Avram from Mizzoni's Pizza, Fairgreen, Portlaoise.

He pleaded guilty to the offence that occurred at an apartment at Lalor Way, Fairgreen, on dates between 30 and 31 August.

Detective Garda JP O’Brien told the court that the defendant let himself into the apartment and took a Playstation 4. He said before leaving the accused opened a window in the apartment to make it appear as though the entry was made that way and not from the doorway to which Mr Avram had the keys to.

Det O’Brien said that the defendant, who had no previous convictions, rang the victim the next day admitting what he had done.

Adjourning the case and remanding Mr Avram on continuing bail to 26 January, Judge Susan Fay instructed the defendant to take part in a Restorative Justice Programme and that he undergoes a probation assessment.
