Laois man allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine

WHEN gardaí stopped a man in Portlaoise and searched him, they allegedly found crack cocaine and diamorphine in his possession.

Garda Sgt JJ Kirby alleged that on 11 February, gardaí stopped and searched John McInerney (52), Cosby Avenue, Fairgreen, Portlaoise at a location in De Vesci Court, Fairgreen, Portlaoise.

Arising from the stop and search, Mr McInerney was charged with two counts of possessing drugs for his own use and two counts of possessing drugs for sale or supply at the time.

Sgt Kirby asked for the case to be adjourned for two months at allow for the compilation of a book of evidence.

Judge Susan Fay remanded Mr McInerney on continuing bail to the 27 April sitting of the court and granted free legal aid to the defendant’s solicitor Matthew Byrne.
