Laois man caused nuisance in Portlaoise A&E

Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise

A MAN who was drunk and caused a nuisance in the A&E at Portlaoise hospital was fined €200 when he appeared at the local district court.

Thomas McCormack (53) from the Sue Ryder Centre, Kilminchy pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place (Portlaoise hospital) on 4 May last.

The court heard that gardaí received a call from the hospital at 2.17am that morning about a man who was in a drunken state. When they arrived, they found the defendant, who had five previous convictions, unsteady on his feet, “basically causing a nuisance and drunk.” Defending solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said that her client is currently on a 12-month probation bond and is working well with the probation services.

She said: “He had an over-reliance on alcohol, but is now taking his medication.” Judge Andrew Cody ruled as outlined.

F unded by the Court Reporting Scheme.
