A 22-YEAR-old man who urinated on a chair while in custody at Carlow Garda Station was fined €400 at a sitting of Carlow District Court last week. Christivie Tuzeyewo, 16 Millbrook, Portlaoise, Co Laois was charged with causing criminal damage.

On 8 November 2025 at approximately 7.50pm, gardaí responded to reports of a drunken man trying to board a train at Carlow Railway Station. Upon arrival at the train station, gardaí observed Mr Tuzeyewo being restrained by security staff.

The court heard that Mr Tuzeyewo was “highly intoxicated and aggressive to staff” and that, while being held in a custody area at Carlow Garda Station, he proceeded to urinate on the floor and a chair, causing damage, which cost €150 in cleaning fees.

Defence solicitor Alex Rafter told the court that his client was originally from Congo but had been living in Ireland for eight years, has no previous convictions and is currently working in a Penneys store.

Mr Rafter presented to the judge the €150 that it cost to clean up the urine and said that Mr Tuzeyewo promises never to appear before a court again.

Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted and fined Mr Tuzeyewo €400.
