Laois man who obstructed gardaí charged with possession of crack cocaine

AT Portlaoise District Court last week, Judge Andrew Cody accepted an explanation from Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes as to why a man could not be present to face alleged drug-related charges.
Jason Crean (40) from O’Moore Place, Portlaoise had been charged with two counts of possessing crack cocaine for his own use and one charge of possessing the drug for sale and/or for supply. He was also charged with obstructing gardaí in the execution of their duty at his address on 11 June this year.
When his case was called, Sgt Huges said that the accused “is a close family relative to a child who is in an induced coma due to an accident.” Accepting the explanation Judge Cody remanded Mr Crean on continuing bail and for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to the 12 October sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
