Laois wedding beautician find for having no car insurance

A MOBILE wedding beautician avoided a driving disqualification at Portlaoise District Court last week.

Patrice Rice (40), Ballycarroll, Portarlington was summonsed before the court for driving while uninsured at St Brigid’s Square, Portarlington on 8 December last year.

She pleaded guilty to the offence.

Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said that his client’s licence, NCT and tax were all in place at the time gardaí stopped her driving.

He said that due to her financial circumstances at the time, no insurance cover was in place. Three days after gardaí had stopped her driving, she put her insurance in place.

Mr Meagher said that his client “is engaged to be married. She works as a beautician that travels to weddings in the course of her work. In the normal way she would have been insured.

“There had been a gap in her cover and on that particular day she had arranged with somebody to bring her to work, but those arrangements had fallen down and she took a chance to drive.” Judge Andrew Cody convicted Ms Rice of driving while uninsured and fined her €750.
