Laois woman and her co-accused sent forward to circuit court on theft charges

A WOMAN who is a co-accused in an alleged robbery of €780 from a service station has been sent forward to the 21 April sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court.

At Portlaoise District Court last week, garda Lisa Murray served a book of evidence on the accused Alison Denton (42), Kilnacourt Woods, Portarlington, who is charged with the offence, which, allegedly, took place at Maxol service station, Portarlington on 23 January.

Gardaí said there was no objection to bail being granted.

Judge Andrew Cody approved an application from her solicitor Barry Fitzgerald for a solicitor and one counsel to represent her at the circuit court hearing.

Her co-accused, Liam Grennan (30) of no fixed abode, was also sent forward to the circuit criminal court sitting charged with robbery at the Maxol service station, as well as burglary at a house at Craydon Court, Portlaoise on 22 January.

He was also sent forward charged with burglary at a premises at Craydon Court, Portlaoise and with the burglary of a premises at Meehan Court, Portlaoise; the theft of a €23 bottle of whiskey from Dunnes Stores, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise, all on 21 January; burglary at Dowling’s Newsagents, Portlaoise Shopping Centre, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise on 22 January; and with the robbery of €335 from Applegreen service station, Portarlington on the same date.  Mr Grennan will also face the circuit criminal court charged with the attempted robbery of a man at Main Street, Portarlington and possession of an imitation 6mm calibre Glock semi-automatic gun on 23 January.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said that her client was not seeking bail and approved an application for a solicitor and two counsel to represent him at the circuit court hearing.

Judge Cody gave both defendants alibi warnings, informing them that they must notify gardaí in writing within 14 days if they wished to rely on alibis in their defence.
