A WOMAN whose address was used by a person charged with motoring offences told gardaí that she was very concerned that her address was used.

So Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told Judge Susan Fay when a defendant was before her at last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court, charged with driving without a licence and insurance and failing to produce a driving licence on 4 January at Clonoghil, Abbeyleix.

Sgt Kirby said: “It was not his address that he gave. The person living at that address is very concerned that he used it.” “What address do you live at?” Judge Fay asked the defendant. He replied: “I live in Ballacolla. At Feragh Apartments. I moved in there two months ago. It’s a mobile home.” Sgt Kirby told the judge: “It is a mobile home. It’s in a field.” Asked by Judge Fay whether he had a solicitor and how much he earned, 30-year-old Imre Csapo replied: “I want a translator. I am a Hungarian. I earn €1,000 a week.” Solicitor Philip Meagher said the defendant had left some papers into his office. When he tried contacting him he was unable to do so, as correspondence had been returned due to the mix-up in the address.

Judge Fay remanded Mr Scapo on his own bail to the 13 March sitting of the court.
