Man allegedly sexually assaulted another man in Laois workplace

REPORTÉRS at Portlaoise District Court last week were asked by Judge Andrew Gubbins not to publish any identifying details about a defendant and his alleged victim in an alleged sexual assault case.
Judge Gubbins said that due to the location and the numbers of people employed in the facility, publishing the defendant’s details could lead to the alleged victim being identified.
The alleged sexual assault took place on 13 November last year at 5.20pm when Det Egan said that a man came up behind another man and “put his finger between the cheeks of his buttocks.”
Defending solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said that he was seeking all evidence that is available against his client to include CCTV footage, if available, which was consented to.
Judge Gubbins remanded the 42-year-old defendant on his own bail of €100 to the 2 November sitting of Portlaoise court and granted free legal aid.
