Man charged with murdering his father appeared at Portlaoise District Court this morning

Henry McGowan is charged with murdering his father in Ballyfin Demense on Tuesday 12 November.

THE 30-year American accused of murdering his father in the five star hotel in Laois was further remanded in custody when he appeared by video link at Portlaoise District Court earlier this morning.

Henry McGowan with an address at 114 Clinton Street, Brookyn, New York, USA is charged with murder in Ballyfin Demense, Ballyfin, on Tuesday 12 November.

At this morning’s hearing defending solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said that Mr McGowan was consenting to the state’s request to be remanded in custody to allow time for a book of evidence in the case to be prepared.

Mr Fitzgerald also asked that DVD footage and memos of interviews from the evidence gathered by gardaí during his time of questioning when arrested be provided to Mr McGowan’s consulting psychiatrist to assist the doctor in his assessment of his client.

Prosecuting Detective Garda Ger Galwey said he had no difficulty in supply the consultant with that information.

Judge Andrew Cody remanded Mr McGowan in custody to Friday 13 December sitting of Cloverhill District Court.
