A DISTRICT court judge said he was at a loss to understand how the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) could direct a case that involved several incidents of dangerous driving should be dealt by way of summary disposal.

 “These were some of the most horrific facial injuries I have ever seen inflicted on an innocent dog," the ISPCA Inspector told the court.

The judge was not pleased the teen had not turned up in court.

The man told the court: "I scrapped the truck since."

“He was out shopping," the man's barrister told the court.

The 47-year old caused €800 worth of damage.

An ambulance was called and paramedics saw to her injures, but the woman declined to be taken to hospital.

The judge gave the 39-year old an option - "Go for treatment or go to prison.” 

The 25-year old was five times over the drug driving limit.

The incident took place at the Lidl store in Portlaoise.

“You clearly have an issue with alcohol,” the judge told the 39-year old woman.

The court directed that 6,000 litres of confiscated diesel be donated to Portlaoise Rugby club.

The man's solicitor said: "It was simply a simple drunken stupid act that shouldn’t have happened.” 

A PORTLAOISE man was charged with an offence under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act at a sitting of the local district court.

“It was a big mistake. I have a good job. I’m not a bad person," said the accused.

The Portlaoise man is due to be released from prison next May.

"She’s probably going to lose everything because of a moment of madness," said the woman's solicitor.

A MOTORIST was told that he was very lucky he didn’t kill himself or other people with the amount of alcohol that was in his system while he was driving through Portlaoise.

"I went to get her out and as she was doing so a large number of beer cans fell from it," said the garda.

A BUS DRIVER whose Rottweiler is alleged to have attacked three other dogs came before Portlaoise District Court.
