WHEN a lorry was stopped by gardaí for not displaying a valid Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness (CVR) disc, they took it to a weighbridge and found it was 40% over the permissible weight allowable on a roadway.

That was the evidence given at Portlaoise District Court when Conor Fitzpatrick from Temple Mills, Celbridge, Co Kildare pleaded guilty to failing to display a CVR disc at the M7 at Morette, Emo on 18 February. He had four previous convictions.

Mr Fitzpatrick said: “The truck was a spare. I was caught out that day. I have four trucks. I scrapped the truck since. It was towed back to the yard and left there.”

Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said the CVR disc was 15 months out of date.

Judge Andrew Cody convicted the defendant of the offence and fined him €500.
