AT Portlaoise District Court, Judge Andrew Cody wanted to know when a woman who smashed the window of a house, because she resented her mother’s choice of partner, was going to pay for the damage she caused.
Chloe Teasdale (30), Canal Gardens, Portarlington was back before the court for payment of €250 as compensation, having previously admitted criminally damaging a window on a council-owned house at Ballymorris Manor, Portarlington on 21 August last year.
When the case was first heard, the court was told that Ms Teasdale had “deep-rooted resentment for the injured party’s choice of partner, which was the source of friction”.
When the case returned to court last week, Judge Cody wanted to know: “When are you going to pay the €250. It’s not a big ask. When is it going to be paid?”
Barrister Seán Egan asked for more time to be given to Ms Teasdale to pay the compensation, to which Judge Cody said: “You must be joking. It didn’t take you 11 months to smash the window.”
The judge went on to set 24 September as the date when he will finalise the case and remanded Ms Teasdale on continuing bail until then.
