Portlaoise Court: Rape accused sent forward to Central Criminal Court

A LAOIS man was sent forward to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on charges of rape, threatening to kill and to assaults causing serious harm.
The 38-year-old, who cannot be named due to the nature of the case and to protect the identity the victim, was served with a book of evidence when he came before Judge Andrew Cody at Portlaoise District Court.
The man is charged with two counts of threatening to kill or cause serious harm on dates between 1 and 9 June 2024; with rape on 9 June and on 2 November; assault causing harm on dates between 1 and 2 November and assault causing harm on 9 January this year.
All of the offences are alleged to have taken place at an address in Laois.
Sending the man forward to the Central Criminal Court, Judge Cody issued him with an alibi warning informing him that he must notify gardaí in writing within 14 days if he wished to rely on an alibi in his defence.
