JUDGE Susan Fay imposed reporting restrictions following a case, when a man was sent forward to the next sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court on a charge of possessing child pornography.

The 52-year-old was before Portlaoise District Court this week, when he was served with a book of evidence by Garda Lisa Murray.

He is charged with possessing child pornography at his address, on dates between 14 January and 11 February 2019.

Sending the defendant forward for trial to the 19 February sitting of the circuit court Judge Fay instructed the defendant that he must notify gardaí in writing within 14 days if he wished to rely on an alibi in his defence.

The man’s solicitor, Barry Fitzgerald, applied for reporting restrictions to be imposed “due to the nature of the charge”.

Judge Fay agreed to impose reporting restrictions, so that the man cannot be identified.
