Portlaoise Court: Two women accused of criminal damage in Laois

TWO Mountrath women who are accused of engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or be haviour and causing criminal damage had their cases adjourned at a recent sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Hayleigh Bergin, 16 Old Fort Crescent, Mountrath and Geraldine Doheny, 15 Old Fort Crescent, Mountrath are both accused of the charges, which allegedly took place at their respective addresses on 9 August last.

Defending solicitor for 28-year-old Ms Bergin said that if the charges are contested by his client, the case would possibly take two hours to hear.

Defending barrister for Ms Doheny (50) said he was seeking full details from the gardaí on his client's alleged offences.

Judge Susan Fay remanded both accused on continuing bail to 24 February to give them time to decide whether they want to enter a plea of not guilty or guilty.

Free legal aid was awarded to both women.
