A TEENAGER who caused €1,500 worth of damage at two Laois GAA clubs has been given until December to pay full compensation.

Then aged 16, the culprit was involved in criminal damage costing €1,000 at Timahoe GAA club and a further €500 worth of criminal damage at Stradbally GAA club on 28 February last year.

The juvenile, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared at Portlaoise District Court for an adjourned hearing, following the provision of a probation report. He was accompanied in court by his mother.

He had also been charged with a series of traffic offences, including taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent at Carmody Way, Portlaoise on 27 February and three counts of dangerous driving in Portlaoise, Abbeyleix and Timahoe on 28 February.

Now aged 17, the teenager told Judge Andrew Cody that he would be able to pay some compensation the following week, as he is working and getting paid.

The judge replied: “I want it in one lump sum.”

The teenager said that he would need at least six or seven months to pay that amount of money.

Adjourning the case until 11 December 2025 for payment of full compensation, Judge Cody told the teenager: “These two clubs are out of pocket because of this skite you went on. I know there is a positive probation report but these clubs are out of pocket.”
