Wife slapped woman over affair with husband

Athy Courthouse

A WOMAN who slapped another female across the face because she believed she was sleeping with her husband left court without a conviction.

The defendant stood beside solicitor Jacqui McManus last week in Athy District Court. Sergeant Dave Harahan said the incident happened back in November 2022.

“It’s a Section 2 assault. They were known to each other, things got out of hand, and she slapped her across the face,” said the sergeant.

“Her husband had an affair with this lady,” explained Ms McManus.

“She was expecting the castle in the sky, the knight in shining armour, that was her dream,” remarked Ms McManus, however she was stopped by a smiling judge shaking his head.

“Now, Ms MacManus,” he laughed. “you sure about that?” “

A hundred per cent!” said an emphatic Ms McManus.

“There’s proof, messages,” alleged the defendant, but when asked if she could prove this said: “They’re not appropriate for court."

“The other woman isn’t here to defend her good name,” noted the judge.

“The injured party doesn’t want to make a fuss about it,” said the sergeant, who added that the defendant had no previous convictions.

The judge imposed the Probation Act and also reporting restrictions in case the injured party could be identified.
