A DRIVER on a learner permit for over 40 years has been arrested by gardaí for drink driving.

Gardaí said the driver was on the way home from a pub in Co Kildare but missed the turn into their housing estate and ended up meeting a checkpoint.

In a post on the An Garda Siochána Kildare Facebook page yesterday, gardaí said: ‘Luck runs out for highly intoxicated learner driver’.

The post continued: ‘They missed their turn into their housing estate and ended up driving into a Mandatory Intoxicant Checkpoint. They failed a roadside breath test and were arrested for drunk driving.’

The car was seized and a court appearance will follow.

Gardaí added: ‘A case like this underscores the importance of responsible driving and adhering to legal requirements. Hopefully, the legal repercussions serve as a wake-up call for safer practices in the future.’
