Driver fined for hogging Laois EV charging bays

The driver was fined for hogging two EV charging bays in Mountrath

A non-EV driver who hogged two charging bays in Mountrath was slapped with a fine by local gardaí.

The vehicle was parked across two EV charging spaces, preventing access to the charging point.

Posting a photo from the scene (above) on social media today, gardaí warned that there is a penalty of €80 for incorrect use of EV charging bays.

They said: ‘Gardaí wish to remind motorists that parking in an EV charging bay without an electric vehicle is an offence. These spaces are limited and essential for those who need to charge their vehicles.

‘In this instance, a non-EV vehicle was parked across two charging bays, preventing access to the charging point for an EV driver. This misuse of designated spaces creates unnecessary inconvenience and potential hazards for other road users.

‘While gardaí initially exercised discretion in the enforcement of this offence, incorrect use of these spaces remains an issue. As a result, Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) of €80 are now being issued, including in this case.

‘Please park responsibly and respect designated EV charging bays.’
