Emerging voice on the Irish folk scene to launch debut album in Mountmellick

Singer/songwriter Joseph Gorman is launching his 14 track debut album in the Mountmellick Arts Centre this Saturday night 9 November

SINGER/SONGWRITER Joseph Gorman is launching his 14 track debut album in the Mountmellick Arts Centre at 8 pm this Saturday 9 November.

He will be supported on the night by the Mountmellick chart-topping Irish Folk singer Emer Dunne and by the Timahoe Men’s Choir.

The concert is a free event with a select number of tickets available for collection in advance from O’Gorman’s, Mountmellick and the Portlaoise Parish Centre. A limited number will be available at the door on the night.

The culmination of five years’ work, the album – ‘The Modern Irish Ballad’ showcases a modern interpretation of traditional Irish folk music.

It features songs blending rich storytelling, evocative melodies, and a deep connection to Irish cultural heritage. With influences from timeless Irish ballads like ‘Four Green Fields’, ‘Come My Little Son’, and ‘Faraway in Australia’, alongside original contemporary folk songs such as ‘Geneva’ ‘Can I See Your Passport?’, and ‘When Minella Won the Double’.

It also tells stories of the lived Irish experience in recent times, including the cost of living crisis, moving to Australia, COVID, rural isolation, humorous come-all-ye songs and recent sporting events.

Joseph and his band is comprised of Joe Byrne and Enda Byrne.

CDs will be on sale on the night or the album is available for streaming on all major online platforms
