Heywood CS art students enjoying their visit to Italy
ART students from Heywood Community School enjoyed a fabulous trip to Italy this spring, when they viewed famous artworks and made magical memories along the way.
The sixth year group travelled to Rome and Florence to view and study renowned Renaissance works, which feature in their Leaving Certificate Visual Studies course.
The tour began in Rome to view Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, The Last Judgment and Rapheal’s School of Athens. After a wonderful visit to the Trevi Fountain, they travelled to Florence by train for a two-day tour.
The action-packed visit consisted of visits to the Bargello, Uffizi Gallery, Galleria dell'Accademia and Florence Cathedral. Students sketched and studied works from their course such as Brunelleschi, Giotto, Cimabue, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rapheal, Uccello and several others.
Students also had a chance to explore the city, visiting markets and local landmarks such as the Ponte Vecchio and Piazzale Michelangelo, during the enjoyable and educational visit.
