Laois asthma suffers encouraged to attend free asthma information workshop

The Asthma Society of Ireland will host a free public workshop in Portlaoise on Saturday next 25 October. The aim of the workshop is to help people with asthma and their families learn practical ways to manage their condition and improve inhaler technique.
The event, ‘Time to Talk about Asthma,’ will take place from 11am to 1pm at Laois Leisure, Portlaoise. It will feature interactive talks, live demonstrations, quizzes, and expert advice from local respiratory healthcare professionals.
Members of the public will hear from Anne Marie O'Shea, Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, who will discuss asthma triggers, symptom management, and day-to-day control strategies. Alison Russell, Paediatric, Respiratory and Allergy Clinical Nurse Specialist in Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, will lead a live demonstration on correct inhaler use, while the Asthma Society team will run a fun “Asthma Facts vs Myths” quiz and an interactive Q&A session.
Following the main talks, participants can visit a range of interactive stands, including:
• Inhaler Technique Check Booth – one-to-one guidance from healthcare professionals
• Resource Table – asthma action plans, trigger guides, and educational booklets
• Fundraising and Support Desk – information on Asthma Society services and local supports
• Feedback Station – opportunity to share experiences and help shape future workshops
A raffle draw will conclude the event, with prizes including a Dry Robe, One4All voucher, and a gift hamper worth €50. Refreshments and welcome packs will be provided, and all participants will have the chance to sign up for the Asthma Society newsletter to stay informed about future initiatives.
