A DRIVER was arrested by Laois gardaí twice in two months after testing positive for drugs.
As the patrol car approached, ANPR warnings ‘lit up like a bingo hall on pension day’, gardaí said on social media today.
The culprit was spotted holding a phone while driving on Sunday 15 March, in a case of déjà vu for the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU).
According to gardaí, the same driver was arrested on 10 January in the same Toyota Hilux, testing positive for cocaine and cannabis each time.
On the second occasion, the person behind the wheel was immediately recognised as disqualified from driving and was pulled in.
The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system on board the patrol car had already flashed alerts.
Posting photos from both scenes, An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly said: ‘A roadside drug test returned positive for cannabis and cocaine, just as it did on 10 January … when this driver was also arrested.’
The Hilux was seized and court proceedings have commenced.
Gardaí commented: ‘Déjà vu … but the court date is new.’
