FIANNA Fáil have convened a special meeting to decide on the successor of Councillor Padraig Fleming.

After seventeen years of service, the Fianna Fail Councillor retired in April, leaving his seat vacant; those hoping to fill his boots are the following candidates; Elva Kelly, Joey Kennedy, Ross Molloy and Willie Ramsbottom.

The vote will take place on Thursday, with Fianna Fáil membership voting from 6:30pm to 8pm, with the new councillor due to be in place for next months' County Council Meeting. The venue for the contest will be the Killeshin Hotel , with only those Fianna Fail Members in the Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District eligible.

Joey Kennedy is a local businessman, owner and manager of Willow and Green Interiors and Burn Gym and has also served as an unelected area representative for Fianna Fail in the Graigeucullen-Portarlington Municipal District. Elva Kelly hails from the Swan near the border with Kildare while Ross Molloy hails from Stradbally. Long-term Fianna Fáil member Williie Ramsbottom of Timahoe is also on the ticket.
