Gardaí in Laois/Offaly are targeting e-scooters and e-bikes today, as part of a national day of action.

Checkpoints will be mounted across both counties throughout the day, focusing on the use of powered personal transporters (PPTs).

Gardaí said the campaign aims to ‘ensure compliance with current regulations’ regarding PPNs such as e-scooters and e-bikes.

An Garda Siochána Laois Offaly said on social media this morning that the checks will include:

*Ensuring drivers are over 16 years of age

*Confirming vehicles are being used legally on roads or cycle lanes

*Preventing use on motorways and other unsuitable high-speed roads

*Preventing use on footpaths

*Enforcing restrictions on carrying passengers where prohibited

*Monitoring adherence to speed limits

*Checking for required lights and reflectors

Gardaí said: ‘All users are advised to ensure their vehicle is legal, roadworthy and used appropriately. Failure to comply with regulations will result in fines or seizure of the vehicle.’
