PEOPLE of Laois are being asked to get behind one of their own to allow a Laois man achieve his dream of a lifetime in is attempt to become a world champion.

Mark Murphy from Ballylynan has been selected to represent Ireland at the World Powerlifting Championships in South Africa in November.

Mark currently trains out of Best Body Gym in Carlow, where he’s become a familiar face through his relentless commitment and focus.

Now, he’s preparing to carry the Laois and Irish flags onto the world stage.

Representing Ireland in the World Championship is self-funded and the costs that are involved such as travel, accommodation and entry fees are substantial.

Appealing for support Mark and his partner Sarah Hayden have set up a GoFuneMe page to help cover these costs of what they describe as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wear the green singlet on the world stage.”

Ms Hayden said: “We’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign to help make this opportunity a reality and would greatly appreciate any support from the local community.”

The World Championships are governed by the World Powerlifting Congress where representatives from 46 countries worldwide will be competing.
