Laois student (12) wins Texaco art award

A TALENTED Laois student has won a top prize in the prestigious 2025 Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
Nicholas Oiboh, a pupil at St. Mary's CBS in Portlaoise, won a Special Merit Award for his stunning artwork titled ‘Self Portrait - The Power Of A Paintbrush’.
His work greatly impressed final adjudicator Pauline O'Connell, an Irish visual artist, curator and educator, who said the 12-year-old’s art displayed ‘high levels of skill and creativity’.
The famous Texaco art contest has an unbroken history dating back to 1955. Throughout those 70 years, it has been a platform for young artists from across the country to have their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
