LAOIS County Council hosted a highly engaging Master Class on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in partnership with Global Action Plan on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. The event, hosted by the Climate Action Section of the council, took place in the Parish Centre, Portlaoise, and was attended by members of the Laois Federation of Tidy Towns.

The purpose of the master class was to support and inform local Tidy Towns groups on how to effectively integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into their National Tidy Towns applications for 2026. The session provided practical guidance on aligning community-led environmental and social initiatives with the SDGs, highlighting how local actions contribute to global sustainability objectives.

Participants were given clear and accessible insights into the SDGs and how they can strengthen Tidy Towns projects, enhance scoring potential, and demonstrate broader community impact within their applications.

The event proved to be very successful, with strong engagement and positive feedback from the groups in attendance. Attendees welcomed the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sustainability principles and to share ideas and experiences with fellow volunteers across the county.

This master class reflects the continued commitment of Laois County Council, the Laois Federation of Tidy Towns, and partner organisations to empowering communities to take meaningful climate and sustainability action at local level.
