Laois woman to shear her head for charity

Lisa Walsh from Cullohill will have her hair sheared tonight in aid of the Cuisle cancer charity
A BRAVE Laois woman will shear her beautiful hair tonight in aid of a cancer charity.
Beauty therapist Lisa Walsh is used to the demands of shearing, as she farms sheep and cattle with her dad James on the family farm in Cullohill.
The shears will turn in her own direction tonight, when she undergoes a head shave in aid of local Cuisle Cancer Support Services.
The ‘Time for a Shear’ event will start at 9pm on Saturday 1 March at the Castle Arms hotel in Durrow with a DJ, raffle and food.
Even before the event begins, Lisa has already passed her €8,000 target for Cuisle and hopes to raise far more, as the vital service costs over €300,000 a year to run.
The cause is very close to Lisa’s heart, as the Cuisle centre in Portlaoise helped her grandmother Lillie Oxley after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. From Coolnabacca, Timahoe, Lillie sadly passed away in 2021 and Lisa will never forget the support and kindness she was shown by the Cuisle team.
Lisa is familiar to many television viewers, as she appeared on the popular
series on RTÉ 2 last October. A qualified beauty therapist, she runs Lisa's Beauty and Massage Room in Cullohill but sheep farming is her first love, as the family farm produces the renowned Cullohill grass-fed lamb. The live head shear is expected to begin at about 9.30pm, courtesy of Joan Carroll from Inch Hairdresser, Urlingford. All are welcome along to support the cause or even to brave their own head shave.
The fundraiser on idonate reached €8,190 today and will remain open for donations until 1 April.
